Step 1

• Before putting your wig on, you should prepare your own hair. If you have short hair you may only need to ensure your fringe is pulled back off your face and away from the top of your ears. For long hair you should ‘pin’ it up onto your head – as flat as possible. It is usually not recommended to put your hair in a ‘pony tail’ as this stops the wig fitting properly and can also dig into your head, which is painful!

Step 2

• You may consider wearing a head cap to neatly contain your hair and get the best effect from your wig
• Your wig will arrive in a box or bag and may also have a net around it. You should remove it from the packaging and place your hand inside the wig, hold it up and give it a gentle shake.


• Now identify the front and the back – the label always goes in the back if there is a label!

Step 3

• Place your wig on a flat surface so that you are looking inside the wig. Ensure the back of the wig is furthest away from you – hold the wig with both hands, one each side at the back, then pick up the wig.


• Place the front edge of the wig on your forehead below your hairline. You may need to let go of the wig with one hand at the back so you can hold the front of the wig in place.


• Now pull the wig over your head until the back of the wig is in the nape of your neck.


• The wig can now be adjusted slightly for comfort. It is usually helpfully to pull down gently on the sides, at the same time, to ensure the wig is fitted snugly.

Step 4

• Your wig is already cut and styled for you, but you may need to ‘reshape’ it slightly. Depending on the style of the wig a gentle shake and reshaping with your fingers may be all that is needed. However, you may comb your wig gently with either a wig comb or a wide tooth comb to get the fibres into the desired shape if you feel it needs it. Long hair wigs or straight hair wigs may need this after being packed in their boxes.
